Social activists expressed support for draft law on action against dog-hunters
A number of NGOs, including “Ekopravo Kyiv and “Animal Justice Ukraine , in cooperation with animal rights activists, have sent letters to the Committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in order to expedite the adoption of the “Azovian” bill against cruelty to animals.
A few weeks ago, Azovian MPs Oleh Petrenko and Andrii Biletskyi registered draft law No. 4895-1 «On Amendments to Certain Legislation of Ukraine concerning Actions against the Cruelty to Animals”.
The draft law proposes to toughen the penalty for promoting or committing animal abuse. We recall that the activists of the Azov Civil Corps carried out a number of acts against so-called “dog-hunters”. Now we are trying to eliminate these negative phenomena at the legislative level.
Furthermore, the bill contains other provisions, particularly regarding the establishment of the state register of unreliable pet owners.
Due to the urgency of the issue, in their letters animal rights activists request the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement to consider draft law No. 4895-1 at the next meeting of the Committee and back it.
We hope that the support of civil society activists will encourage the deputies to pass this bill and eliminate such socially harmful phenomenon as “dog-hunting”.
